Kids Takeover the Museum

As part of the Kids In Museums Takeover day 2013, we were pleased to run our event with Havering Hedgehogs for the kids to takeover the museum on 23rd November 2013. The idea behind this national event is to get kids to takeover activities usually done at the museum by adult volunteers. Our event focused on four aspects of the museum, collections, front of house, exhibitions and the galleries. For collections the children had great fun dressing up in masks, aprons and gloves to clean the blacksmiths tools. As front of house volunteers they were shown how to work the till and greet visitors to the museum. The exhibitions team showed the kids how to  put together their own exhibtion and we got some great ideas for the Hedgehogs own exhibition which they will be putting together in 2014. As part of the galleries section they came up with a quiz which will be used by children visiting the museum in future.. The kids all agreed that the day was a success and they thoroughly enjoyed taking over the museum!
